Over the coming months we will introduce the 'Irish Interski Team' as we build up to Interski 2019 Pamporovo. First up is one of our research team members Conor Stakelum. Each team member has written about themselves under the headings of Learn it, Love it, Live it - the philosophy of the Irish Association of Snowsports Instructors (IASI).
Learn it - tell us about when you learnt to ski?
January 2002 was when I first learnt to ski on a trip to Livigno, Italy. I think the enthusiasm of the Italian Instructor we had that week was infectious and was a big reason why I returned to The Ski Club of Ireland to be more prepared and make the most of my next trip.
Love it - what is it you love about skiing/teaching?
To see any client transition from someone who is nervous to someone who has complete confidence in his or her ability is fantastic, the big smile that says i've got this says it all.
Live it - where are you based and what has skiing given to you?
I teach at the Ski Club of Ireland in Co. Dublin and manage the Friday Night Team at the club. Skiing has allowed me to meet and learn from similar people with the same passion I have for the sport and a great appreciation for all things outdoors.
Share an Interski moment - past/build up/expectation
It was brilliant to see so many of the Irish Interski Team at the recent team get together at The Snow Centre Hemel Hempstead, The level of commitment being given by everyone is inspiring and looks like March 2019 will be an Interski to remember.
Whats your craziest moment on skis?
The first time getting to the Top of the Valluga Cable Car in St Anton and a guide saying we are now in a no fall zone certainly focuses the mind, but the reward is certainly worth it when you have untracked powder waiting for you.
And remember that all our team members are paying their own way so if you would like to support the team visit our support the team page. Any donations received will go directly to help with travel and accommodation costs.
