This week we introduce team member Mark Shaxted as we continue our build up to Interski 2019 Pamporovo. Mark is one of our Alpine demo team members and also one of our technical demonstrators. We recently published a short video of Mark in action at our recent training camp on the Kitzsteinhorn in Kaprun, Austria (see below).
Learn it - tell us what learning to ski means to you?
Every day presents an opportunity to make a better turn, teach a better lesson and try new things. When everyday has the potential to be different to help us improve it’s hard not to be passionate about learning.
Love it - what is it you love about skiing/teaching?
I believe that people can have a better on snow experience tomorrow because of what we do as snow sports teachers today. When we get to see that in action it’s a rewarding moment for everyone. Also... bluebird powder days, and ripping fresh groomed runs!
Live it - where are you based and what has skiing given to you?
I am from the UK and have spent the last 15 winters teaching in Western Canada. Teaching skiing has allowed me to build a career doing something I love and to share that with others.
Share an Interski moment - past/build up/expectation
My road to Interski began from wanting the next step in my career and for me to judge myself relative to my peers as a skier and ski teacher. This path has changed to an incredible opportunity to learn more about our sport from some of the most experienced and talented instructors from around the world. I hope to be able to create as many opportunities as possible to share the experience.
What's your craziest moment on skis?
This is probably quite a long list! But I would say to this day the craziest and stupidest thing I’ve ever done was blowing my ACL on a Friday and being back skiing on the Monday. I put my career and passion ahead of my own health and future. I’d like to say I’ve learned from my mistake, but I don’t think the crazy moments have stopped, maybe slowed down though!
